Welcome to

CoverSupervisors.co.uk

This site is dedicated to those working as Cover Supervisors & Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTA), as well as those who may seek to recruit and employ them, such as recruitment agencies, schools, nurseries and after school clubs.

Although we have placed the job title of ‘Cover Supervisor’ along with that of ‘Higher Level Teaching Assistant’, it is important to note that these are not necessarily the same! However, it is assumed that both of these roles will include the supervision of whole classes from time to time and as such HLTA’s are included as part of this site, in that context.

For more specific information on HLTA’s please go to: www.teaching-assistants.co.uk

This site provides an online forum (message board) where those looking for jobs, staff, advice, support, as well as wanting to exchange ideas and resources with those in similar positions, can do so freely anytime.

Most importantly of all, our FREE online newsletter will regularly contain a round up of essential information and news & views for cover supervisors & higher level teaching assistants, as well as jobs and other articles of direct interest for those employed as school support staff.

The main focus of our Learning Supervisor team is to support the learning of our students in the event of teaching staff absence.
Their Professional Review will reflect this by using the same structure as the Teacher. However, in order to reflect the fact that they are not planning the lessons that they deliver, the range of C standards upon which they will focus will reflect this.

PR1 – Teaching and Learning Focus
C30 Teaching engaging and motivating lessons
C38 Manage learners’ behavior using a range of techniques.

PR2 – Shared Departmental / Team Focus
C33 Support and guide learners so that they can reflect on their learning, identify the progress
that they have made, set positive targets for improvement and become successful
independent learners.

PR3 – Individual Development Objective
The Teacher’s PR3 Standards are linked to the development of leadership.
Learning Supervisors may feel that these are relevant to them, or they may consider that another objective would be more relevant.
Paragon will allow the framing / editing of any of these Standards to reflect the particular needs of the individual
For example – if a Learning Supervisor is considering using the experience gained this year in order to prepare for teacher training next year then this might be their PR3.
This can be achieved thus ;
You will find a statement that relates to Learning Supervisor Development.
Consider, with your coach, where you are currently and rate the statement overall. (Remember – think about the ‘evidence’ that you are collecting that you could present to a Teacher Training Provider – lesson observations / qualifications etc).
This will direct you to meet with me – as we already have planned in this development programme – to provide you with access and support in this area.
